Habitat 67 - Timeshare 94 (2025)
I recognized the cover photo of Montreal’s Habitat 67, but I didn’t know what it was called. It’s an interesting demonstration of the dual threads of brutalist architecture: innovatively finding new ways to reconnect people with the buildings they live in, along with the 20th century hubris of assuming that the future is made entirely of concrete and sticking straight up in the air.
This is apparently a musical homage to the building. It’s an excellent example of how the vaporwave / barber beats movement has grown up in the last few years. This is a mature piece of downtempo listening music, not just kids playing with samplers. But the ethos is still there: make something beautiful and odd that takes you out of your normal space.
