20th Century Guitar - Julian Bream (1967)
It’s maybe a little presumptuous to make a record of “20th Century guitar” barely halfway through the 20th century, but I don’t know that this collection would have been improved with Breams takes on Clapton, Van Halen, or Gilmour.
The whole thing is a nice reminder that there is more to the classical guitar repertoire than Joaquin Rodrigo and Bach transcriptions, which seem to be the content of most classical guitar collections. But partially because of Bream driving it, there’s a body of guitar compositions from the 20th century that stands on its own.
Tracks I Liked
Nocturnal is the only Benjamin Britten piece I know of that he wrote for guitar, and it was for Bream.
