Virtue - Alphonse Mouzon (1977)

Mouzon was a top player in the fusion game of the 70s, although he never stopped being a great performer until his death in 2016. He played with Larry Coryell’s band Eleventh House, on a Weather Report record, and with a number of other jazz, fusion, and funk greats including this personal favorite of mine

Here he leads a quartet date that features a lot of the spacey futurist tones that a lot of fusion had in it by the late 70s. It also displays Mouzon’s aversion to letting there be any space not filled with drums. I say that like I’m making fun, but it’s what’s truly great about the guy: constant inventiveness.
