Your Funeral My Trial - Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds (1986)
The first Cave album that’s ended up in here, which seems odd to me. Look, Cave is in the same class as Frank Zappa on my list of people I just don’t have time to get obsessed with. Cave has so much legendary work and I only skirt the edges in the years I’ve been listening.
This is an early effort that might be hard to find a way into. It’s very gothic and … I don’t know… artsy. Cave was and is a visionary, but that vision has seldom been to make really accessible music.
If there’s one thing you can say about Cave’s whole catalog: I don’t know anyone who can so completely conjure a mood and atmosphere with a song and keep you hanging there for as long as he wants.
Tracks I Liked
The Carny - A fully developed cast of characters for the best movie that never existed
Jack’s Shadow - maybe an early, more cinematic but less violent version of one of my favorite Cave tracks, Papa Won’t Leave You Henry
