The Cold Vein - Cannibal Ox (2001)

I think I’d call it an “APNI” (Area of Particular Nerdy Interest), a tiny sliver of the world that I know more about than anybody needs to. For me that includes 80s GI Joe comics, the Coen Brothers’ film Miller’s Crossing, and El-P’s short-lived label, Definitive Jux.

Def Jux was home to All of El-P’s solo records as well as a bunch of other cool things.

One of its first releases was this from Brooklyn duo Cannibal Ox. Produced by El, it’s a claustrophobic jumble of synths and drum programming that sounds like a retro sci fi version of an old school rap crew.

I hadn’t heard it in a long time and it was a lot of fun to spin again.
