Recency Bias Rears Its Ugly Head

There have been multiple times when I’ve had a chance to talk about a favorite record from the “classic rock era” of the 60s and 70s and I’ve stopped myself. “This isn’t some geezer’s ten-albums-that-are-better-than-the-shit-you-kids-listen-to blog,” I say to myself, “You have plenty of older albums in here.”

I recently did the math, and I was very surprised at how untrue that turned out to be. I’ve been overcompensating, underserving mid-20th-century records because I thought I was doing them more than I was. The irony is that I had no problem making a very long brainstorm list of more-than-35-year-old albums, both famous and obscure, that I wanted to include. So I’ll be going into old-guy mode for a while. We can catch up with some newer things later.

I’ll do my best to spare you about how cool the old Lewis Drug building on Minnesota Avenue was before they turned it into boring office space.
