Shadowfax - Shadowfax (1982)

Shadowfax is almost certainly not the only band named after Lord Of The Rings lore (it’s the name of Gandalf’s horse, if you’re a casual), but they are almost certainly the chillest band named after Lord Of The Rings lore.

I knew I’d be doing my taxes today, because it’s the last weekend to do it so of course I’d be doing it this weekend. I wanted something on so I didn’t have to sit in silence, but not something that was going to distract or aggrivate me.

Thus, early 80s new age-y lite jazz. I don’t call it that to make fun. It fills a niche. I read an economist who once said that bad whiskey is part of an optimal supply of whiskey, and I could see the same holding true for slightly somnolent elevator jazz.

It’s well-played and well-constructed. Not what I’d rock out to on the highway, but a nice soundtrack to stuff I didn’t really want to do today.
