Eyes On The Lines - Steve Gunn (2016)

Gunn is a great guitarist who has a fun throwback attitude towards making engaging, loosely constructed folk- and americana-inflected rock.

The whole thing sounds like a 70s folk revivalist record and a modern indie outing at the same time.

It’s a great trick. The songs are compelling and give plenty of room for the laid back but still complex guitarwork to come through.

Tracks I Liked

The Drop - starts with an almost note-for-note crib of Dylan’s Mozambique, but turns into its own thing.

Conditions Wild - a deceptively breathy but exhilarating workout

Night Wander - The most Grateful-Dead-sounding track on an album that owes a lot to that band’s work
