Terra Incognita - Akusmi (2026)
Pascal Bideau, who does business as Akusmi, is French. He brings a lot of the continental style of unabashedly mixing jazz with electronics. And now being based in London, he also revels in that intersection of musical tribes that city is so good at.
The jazz parts are firmly rooted in the spiritual jazz tradition, with soaring figures leading the way and avoiding ultra-technical displays. There’s also a lot of African rhythm mixed in to keep it from sounding too staid.
There’s not a ton of variance, which makes it a little hard to keep track of when a track is done. However it’s definitely still worth the listen.
