Recollection - Earthen Sea (2024)

Jacob Long has been in a string of underground bands that are mentioned in his bio like I ought to have heard of them. In fact, I have not. Regardless, he’s since turned to making solo projects in this dub-heavy downtempo style that are quite pleasant.

Probably being a bassist by trade and having played in bands makes him a lot more conscious of the flow of a track as a song. You don’t get a lot of meandering space exploration like you sometimes do in ultra-chill music. Instead, you have nice melodic elements and something resembling verses and choruses (though maybe not exactly).

The tracks do tend to blend into each other, but that says as much about its consistent quality as it does about its creativity.

It’s a great counterpoint to the dense and hectic pace of the last few days of the week.
