Forevergreens - Tonbruket (2016)

I can’t find much about this album, or even a clue to why it was in the inbox. But it’s pretty slick European jazz fusion. Fusion, if you’re not familiar, is a hybrid of jazz and rock, using electric (and occasionally distorted) instruments and more standard rock rhythms but with some of the harmonic inventiveness of jazz.

These guys do a great job of straddling that seam. The first name on the cover, Dan Berglund, is apparently the bassist and bandleader. You can hear how the bass is driving a lot of the compositions, but it’s a very well-balanced group and everyone gets a their moment. Definitely glad I listened.

Tracks I Liked

Sinkadus - sounds a bit like an italian movie score from the 60s, only more modern and fluid

Tarantella - big 70s ass-rock energy

First Flight Of A Newbird - a very nice slow-burn, with some of the best guitar work on the record
