Warm Chris - Aldous Harding (2022)
I get a little bit inside my own head sometimes, especially when it comes to music. I can get into a rut where I want to just fill my head with loudest, grooviest, and most driving beats I can find. It’s good to be reminded how simple and beautiful it can be to hear a lovely song sung by a lovely singer.
The lyrics here don’t seem to be super deep, but they don’t have to be. It’s a record full of elegant, understated pop that’s just odd and personal enough to be very charming and engaging without being saccharine.
It’s beautiful throughout. It does occasionally get melancholy but that’s mostly just puts the bouncier moments in relief. I’d never heard of Aldous Harding until this album, but I will definitely listen to more.
Tracks I liked
Ennui - I’ve used the word “elegant” several times here, but this song screams it especially loudly. But i mean, in an elegant way…
Fever - a fun, loping beat and a charming lyric
Lawn - maybe the busiest track, but great
