Version - Mark Ronson (2007)
Mark Ronson is what you call an “industry insider.” He has produced and co-written with all sorts of heavyweights, and he gets long lists of them to feature on his own records. One of them, a Bruno Mars vocal called “Uptown Funk,” you might have heard of.
That’s not to dismiss Ronson as a dabbler. He has a fantastic sense for making records sound both classic and brand new (see also his work with Amy Winehouse on Back To Black). Horns, strings, background guitar skronk, and gaudy harmonies all make this very throwback-y but the production quality is immaculate and you get all the details.
Tracks I Liked
Stop Me - the only good version of a Smiths song in existence.
Valerie - great tune with Amy Winehouse singing
Just - Radiohead banger, with a horn chart. Fantastic.
