When i went through records released in years ending in 8, I tried on purpose to find things I hadn’t heard or even heard of. It just had to be fairly highly rated on AOY (where i was looking) and something I didn’t know much about.
That has produced mixed results, it must be acknowledged. I have to remind myself that just because other people are super into something, it doesn’t automatically mean I will love it.
This is plodding, mid-tempo jangle pop, relentless in its inoffensive, evenly-metered, anti-funky monotony. It’s pleasant, but it’s …. like, brutally pleasant. Saying you hate this is like saying you hate sunshine, but sometimes sunshine isn’t what you want, and honestly sometimes the sunshine just isn’t that great.
