Thrice Woven - Wolves In The Throneroom (2017)
Ideated from: Fall music, things that make me think of the autumn for one reason or another
I always gravitate to the grandiose and pretentious end of every spectrum I get on, for whatever reason. If I have a choice between “merely nerdy” and “so nerdy you have to defend yourself to the other nerds,” you know which side I’m landing on. It’s partly my natural contrarian streak, and probably partly the neurodivergence.
So as you might imagine, I love lengthy black metal epics about pagan mythology. Not sure what else to tell you. This is that.
As with all the black and black-adjacent metal I love, it’s a solid wall of sound built on great drumming, with lots going on at the high frequencies as well. Not for everybody, but great for who it’s for.
Tracks I Liked
The Old Ones Are With Us - probably the best track here. A great build-up, and some of the best vocals on the record.
Angrboda - there’s an alternate universe where this would be popular. I would love to live there.
