Edition 1 - King Midas Sound and Fennesz (2015)

Ideated from: a mystery playlist I found that I have no memory of making but has some cool stuff on it

King Midas Sound is a more chilled-out outlet for hard dancefloor producer The Bug. Fennesz is a sound-collage / experimental composer who works with looped recordings of live instruments. This doesn’t sound a whole lot like either artist; it’s a strikingly new thing.

There is a ton of space and texture here. The vocal melodies are well in front, but they’re floating on an icy, billowing cloud of ambient sound.

It’s all quite entrancing. Sadly, the promised editions 2 through 4 have not appeared seven years on.

Tracks I Liked

Waves - an exercise in patience and stillness

Lighthouse - talks about drifing, very appropriately

Above Water - a gorgeous straight ambient track

Phase Corrected
Shit And Shine
a delicate balance between the two

First Weapon Drawn
CZARFACE
hard instrumental hip-hop beats, and wrestlers in space
