Young Fathers are a trio who seem to have zero regard for genre conventions. You’re as likely to get hip hop as pop, dancefloor, or acid rock. Smart lyrics and a great sense of songcraft make this record the best they’ve done yet (or the best ever, if they’re done. Four years on, this is still the most recent album, although they did drop a single this year). UPDATE: !!!
Tracks I Liked
In My View - a pretty average song for Young Fathers, which is above average by most other standards. Slow build, big payoff
Lord - a really interesting construction. A simple opening gets shot through with seemingly dissonant synth stabs. But then they add another layer of harmony and you see how it all fits together into something quite beautiful
Holy Ghost - a clubby banger
