Caetano Veloso - Caetano Veloso (1967)

An early album from a person I’ve never heard of, but is apparently famous in Brazil as a musician and a political activist. (EDIT: I’ve learned a lot about Brazilian music in the last few years. here’s a good primer on Veloso and Tropicalia)

He was one of the founders of this kind of Tropicalia music, which is eclectic, funky, and kind of psychedelic. I don’t speak Portugese, so I don’t know if the leftist politics that made 60s Brazil’s military government so angry were explicit or implied in the songs.

It’s an interesting character with an interesting history that I’ve stumbled onto. I’ll definitely be looking into him more.

In the meantime, this is a pretty fun bossa-psych-pop record.
