The Remains - The Remains (1966)
This was a band from Boston who broke up before this first record even got a release date. But man does it rip.
It’s got a little of everything, a hallmark of early garage rock that would birth the underground, DIY aesthetic. You get some doo woppy British pop, blues stomps, organ jams, harmonica, soul music, and plenty of rock n roll stuff that sounds like the Beatles and the Stones of the time.
Not a release that many people talk about, but it deserves some evangelism.
Tracks I Liked
Don’t Look Back - up-tempo shout-along
Why Do I Cry - Basically the Zombies, but I love the Zombies
Time Of Day - a real barn-burner that could easily have been recorded 50 years later and still sound like it fits.
I’m Talking About You - something between Motown and the Beatles covering Chuck Berry
