At Scaramouche - Shabason & Krgovich (2022)

This seemed like the kind of thing I was gonna hate, but by the time I was done I really liked it.

The two who have their name on the record lead a large cast of great musicians. The songs are all slice-of-life, almost to a ridiculous degree. Yet they work so well. The whole project is apparently inspired by a past-its-glory-days restaurant they were in, and you get that sense of melancholy at the same time as the beauty.

The music is elegant and beautiful, if maybe a little too mellow for some tastes. But the really charming performances sell it for me.
