The Bad Plus - The Bad Plus (2022)

Minneapolis’ The Bad Plus has usually been a piano trio over the years (though with two different pianists at different times). Here they’ve reconfigured into a quartet featuring the same rhythm section, along with a guitarist and a saxophonist.

While the textures do sound different with the new arrangements, you still get a lot of the same smooth, melodic jazz they provided on previous releases. It’s shot through with classical and rock underpinnings, but is still jazz at its core.
