Black Radio III - Robert Glasper (2022)
Ideated from: The 65th Grammys just went down. While I’m of the opinion that the Grammys are mostly a self-congratulatory circle-jerk for vertically-integrated media corporations to sell TV ad time, I do often hear about some good records I had missed.
People sometimes get exercised about what jazz artists do if it doesn’t seeem sufficiently jazz-oriented. But Robert Glasper has made a career out of keeping one foot firmly in the jazz traditions and one in the world of popular R&B and hip hop.
Glasper’s piano lines are smooth and sultry. He gets a full dance card of great rappers and singers to bring their own talents.
This one won Best R&B Album, much to some people’s chagrin.
