Positano Songs - Will Ackerman (2022)
Ideated from: The 65th Grammys just went down. While I’m of the opinion that the Grammys are mostly a self-congratulatory circle-jerk for vertically-integrated media corporations to sell TV ad time, I do often hear about some good records I had missed.
Ackerman started Windham Hill Records, which has been a reliable purveyor of what I would call “hardcore chill.” Ambient music with mostly acoustic instruments, simple and beautiful without being cloying or condescending.
This one was a 2023 Grammy nominee for Best New Age, Ambient, Or Chant Album–a strange-bedfellows catch-all for music you can’t dance to, sing along with, or call jazz without making Wynton Marsalis mad.
