Next To Normal - Original Broadway Cast (2009)
Ideated from: it’s Bring Your Daughter To Blog week. She gave me a list of a whole week’s worth of things she wanted me to listen to.
She asked me if musical cast recordings were allowed. I gathered that, depending on my answer, I might have gotten a list of 7 shows to listen to. So I tried to point out that they’re usually a lot longer than the records I listen to. She mercifully only included one, which she’s been talking up for some time.
The thing is, while I’m not really a musical theater guy, the girl has excellent taste in musical theater.
As with a lot of the shows she’s brought to my attention, it’s kind of a harrowing subject matter, about a family’s struggles with their mom’s mental illness. Just listening to the songs only gets you part of the story, of course, but it’s certainly well performed.
