Weezer (Blue Album) - Weezer (1994)

Ideated from: a favorite album that starts with “W”.

It was the fall of 1994. I was super excited to travel to Minneapolis’ First Avenue to see the band called Live. They had just released Throwing Copper, and my friends and I were quite excited about it.

They had an opening act called Weezer, which we only knew from the funny video for The Sweater Song that had been on MTV. Four guys came onstage, stood basically in one place for 30 minutes, and destroyed a totally unprepared crowd.

28 years later, this is widely considered one of the greatest rock albums of the era. It might be the best thing Weezer ever did despite still being around for the intervening decades, but that’s not really a discredit. And no offense to Live, who did have their moment, but Weezer is the part of the show I most remember.

Tracks I Liked

My Name Is Jonas - alt-rock anthem

Undone - The Sweater Song - fun and rowdy like most of this album, but still a standout.
