Stash - Cock & Swan (2012)
This band (and drummer Johnny Goss, whose name seems to be interchangable with the band name a lot of places) should probably fire their publicist. Hard to find much of anything about them.
This is a gorgeous, fragile record with airy vocals and light acoustic instrumentation laid over hyper-busy but still unintrusive drumming. The interplay between the calmness and the frenetic beats that often underly it really makes this distinctive.
Several things I saw classified it as trip hop, which doesn’t seem accurate. But there is a lot in common, and apparently earlier work of theirs leaned into that more.
Tracks I Liked
Stash - some of the record’s best drumming
Raging Chisel - angular and driving
Tectonic Plates - lazy but still demanding attention
