In Times Of Trouble - Trouble Funk (1983)

You shouldn’t judge a book by its cover. An 80s vintage funk album, however… maybe go ahead and judge by the cover a little bit.

These guys played Go-Go funk, a short-lived style of rap- and R&B-informed funk out of the DC area. It was a distinctive subgenre that featured rap-style chants and sing along energy. Neither the scene nor this band really broke big, but it’s a fun spin for sure. A little bit of Prince, a little bit of Parliament, a little bit of Sugar Hill Gang.
