Hell Can Wait - Vince Staples (2014)

I’ve been slipping on getting time to write these things up, and it got worse while traveling the last few days. Please forgive my recent succinctness.

A Long Beach-repping MC who hit the west coast rap scene with a hugely different sound than most of his peers. I tagged it electronic because it’s extremely club- and dancefloor-oriented. That doesn’t take anything away from his flow, because he’s a fantastic lyricist and rapper.

Tracks I Liked

Fire - the first Staples song I heard. Blew me away, at least until I heard Norf Norf and most of that first album

Blue Suede - great showcase for Staples’ rhythmic lyrical attack

11th Orbit
Emancipator & Lapa
chilled and trance-inducing

bring the mother-fluting ruckus
