50 Words For Snow - Kate Bush (2011)
This record is the exact reason I have a tag for “sophisticated-ass grown-up music.” Kate Bush was an electric artist when she was a young star, but she has matured into an absolute genius level recording artist. She almost never performs live, and we have to wait the better part of a decade between releases, but you never feel cheated.
Literary lyrics, a heartfelt delivery, an amazing voice, a heart-shattering sense of dynamics that always pays off in some way or another.
A good chunk of the record is basically a piano trio configuration, although when she branches out into a bigger production she really branches out. The sense of adventure and just the feeling of being pulled into an entirely different world is an amazing accomplishment.
