Hubris - Oren Ambarchi (2016)

drawing particularly from Ambarchi’s love of Wang Chung’s soundtrack to William Friedkin’s To Live and Die in L.A.

What more do you need in a write-up to be interested in something?

Ambarchi makes a lot of music. While I really like a lot of it, this didn’t stick with me. Relentlessly confrontational, but never really developing beyond that into anything more.

There are some intense and fun passages, especially when the guitar skronk starts jutting out into the rhythms in the 3rd track. But none of it is exactly relaxing, and it was hard for me to find a way into it.
