Mouvement - Helmut Lachenmann (1984)
I love it when I sometimes stumble at random on a thing i really like. That’s part of why I keep track of as many different viewpoints and outlets as I do.
For instance, I have a favorite economics blog. Marginal Revolution is by two George Mason University economists. They lean heavily libertarian and often have refreshing takes on the issues they talk about. They tend to be pretty wonky, in the sense that they assume their audience is highly educated in economics (which I am not). But I also love their takes on culture, travel, books, and music.
Tyler mentioned here in his post about music that his dog doesn’t like Lachenmann, which sent me to Youtube because I’ve never heard of Lachenmann. I got this piece, performed live by Ensemble Intercontemporain; the Ensemble Modern recording was the best thumbnail I found. It’s a jaunty little bit of modern classical music that stays interesting without becoming dissonant.
