John Coltrane and Johnny Hartman - John Coltrane & Johnny Hartman (1963)

Ideated from: Some selections from Youtuber Rick Beato’s 40 Greatest-Sounding Albums video

The only recording with a vocalist Coltrane did, I think. It’s a gem of the American songbook, featuring Rogers & Hart and Irving Berlin among others.

Hartman’s voice is great, and Coltrane with his early 60s quartet complement him flawlessly.

so does it sound great?

Albums produced by Bob Thiele take up over 200 pages on Wikipedia, and include more famous entries than I could count. The guy knew what he was doing. It was recorded by Rudy Van Gelder at his New Jersey studio with its fantastic acoustics and rich history. I can’t blame Beato for making this his greatest-sounding album of all time.
