CQ - The Outsiders (1968)
ideated from: a YT video about “The psychedelic Masterpiece You May Have Never Heard” and I’ll be damned: I had not.
The Outsiders are one of those bands that didn’t get into the “classic rock” canon when they had the chance. Unlike baseball, there’s no veterans committee to rectify the situation.
This is some high energy rock that sounds conventional most of the time. But they do prefigure the sound of more aggressive music that would hit the market soon. There’s a ton of proto-punk power that even sounds a bit like 80s hardcore in places.
Tracks I Liked
Daddy Died On A Saturday - hyped up psych pop that hits hard
Doctor - surf rock crossed with the Stooges
The Man On The Dune - dark harmonies along with serious guitar work
Wish You Were Here With Me Today - a great little workout
