Soul Brothers / Soul Meeting - Ray Charles and Milt Jackson (1957)
There are several different versions of this release, sometimes with one title and sometimes with the other. They’re all drawn from a 1957 session these two sat together. Apparently Ray plays sax on a couple tracks while Milt plays piano.
As mentioned previously, Charles was as at home in a jazz combo as he was in front of a soul band. While his playing is always bluesy he still well understands the complex territory of bop-era jazz.
Tracks I Liked
Cosmic Ray - fast paced and smooth
Blue Funk - guitar and vibes
Hallelujah, I Love Her So - A Charles original done here instrumentally
