Uninvisible - Medeski Martin & Wood (2002)

I listen to a lot of the modern, less rigorous and more chill jazz that aims to create atmosphere rather than a froth of technique. As far as I’m concerned, that lineage comes mostly from these guys.

NYC downtown musicians who formed a partnership that was forward-thinking, restless, and always looking for the next sound.

Funk and soul mixes with jazz and avant garde, and they throw in whatever they can find on top of that. The songs are always tuneful, however. The three (and their collaborators, who by this time were many) always have a great dialog between each other, never intruding too far into another’s space but always staking out their own claim.
