9th & 13th - Jonathan Coe (2002)
A nexus of odd rabbitholes I could go down if I didn’t have an agenda for the day.
Coe is a novelist (not one I know anything about). This is a collab using his spoken word work along with Danny Manners (occasional member of a prog band called Big Big Train) and Louis Philippe (who is a singer / songwriter as well as a commentator on French football). I don’t know any of these people, nor do I have any recollection of how this ended up in my inbox. But the ways of the world are unfathomable, and this is a very pleasant record.
Jazzy sophisti-pop that doesn’t really grab you until you’re several songs in and realize that you’ve quite liked it so far.
