Music From The Penguin Cafe - Penguin Cafe Orchestra (1976)
Penguin Cafe Orchestra (o_O) was a delightfully weird and unpredictable outfit.
They made music that was completely of its own style. They were somewhat involved with Brian Eno’s minimalist and ambient sphere, but were also at home with some of the Canterbury progressive sound of the early 70s. Yet they manage to sound like none of it. It’s calm and joyous and a great time.
Tracks I Liked
Penguin Cafe Single - probably should have been a hit
Surface Tension - a string elegy
The Sound of Someone You Love Going Away And It Doesn’t Matter - amazing title, amazing pastoral meditation
