Flirtin' With Disaster - Molly Hatchet (1979)
Yet another excellent 70s record i would probably never have heard if not for my old friend Jack.
I wouldn’t call Molly Hatchet funk, but hear me out. There’s no mistaking the sound: Hatchet played the bluesy southern boogie rock of Skynrd and the Allmans. It’s funny how genres bend around each other, though.
If you have your three (!) guitarists playing that boogie pattern (dragging the one, I’d call it, but what do i know?) but keep your drummer on a rock-steady backbeat, you start to get breaks that would fit on a Funkadelic or Stevie Wonder record.
Tracks I Liked
Boogie No Mo’ / Flirtin’ With Disaster - according to the tracklist, there are tracks on the record after this. You’ll never get to them because you’ll keep repeating these two.
