O - Clavvs (2021)
insert joke about how a double-you is actually a double-v, which is cute, I guess. q.q.v. Alvvays and Robert Eggers’ The VVitch
When I get over my language nerdness, I notice that this is actually a fantastic, groovy pop record. The mostly programmed beats have a distinctive sound that booms without distracting from the vocals.
The smooth pulse of the bass is punctuated in places with some sharper sounds, and the lyrics stay evenly urgent throughout. If there’s a criticism, it’s just that the songs start to all sound the same after a bit. But that’s partly because they have a great sound that the tracks all sound like.
Tracks I Liked
Ship - builds nicely to a great second half
Run Run Run - Feels like it’s about to break loose but never really does
Weeds - a little groovier than average
Dance In Place - why wouldn’t you?
