1979 - Deru (2014)

something i had bookmarked on Youtube, due to the Great Spotify Outage Of 2025

A bit confusing because of the way I format my articles, but this in fact mid-teens ambient, not some lost relic from 1979.

A couple of reviews (e.g.) mention there being a physical film projector sort of thing with the original release, and the underpinnings about bringing the “9 pure tones” back into harmony, which sounds to me a lot like Pythagoras’s “music of the spheres” concept, but what do I know?

There is a bit of the inspiration apparent in the music. The various tones wobble and waver and gradually converge and diverge.

I often say that I have trouble listening to what’s sometimes called “tonal ambient” with nothing but gradually evolving sound washes, but this has enough texture and method to it that I stayed interested.
