Sparkle In The Rain - Simple Minds (1983)

A couple of the early Simple Minds albums that got them noticed, if not famous, are on the inbox playlist, so I might get to them eventually.

This is the transition point from new wave kids to rock stars.

Produced by Steve Lillywhite (o_O), who had a knack in the 80s for wrangling young bands into coherent recording artists, took Simple Minds to the next level.

This is much bigger and much more accessible than their early work, launching them into the world of big venues and big hits

Tracks I Liked

Book of Brilliant Things - an anthem, even if it wasn’t a gigantic hit

Waterfront - a little plodding but it gets it all pretty much right.

Street Hassle - A Lou Reed cover that is also sort of a weird Lou Reed impression

The Kick Inside Of Me - old post-punk meets new rock n roll. The best example here of the band’s sound in transition
