A Jackal's Wedding - Westerman (2025)

some 2025 releases I hadn’t gotten to yet

I called his previous one my album of the year in 2023, and I stand by it. This new one came from the tumultuous time since then. He moved to Greece, had several professional setbacks, and a very serious health crisis. Through it all, he recorded this on the island of Hydra in Greece with up-and-coming producer Marta Salogni.

This one is a little dialed back from some of the luscious excesses of Inbuilt Fault. The songs are stripped down and give better place to Westerman’s beautiful tenor voice. The lyrics are about the tumult of life.

This didn’t grab me instantly like Inbuilt Fault did, but I expect I’ll get into it more as I keep listening.

Tracks I Liked

About Leaving - kind of grim but kind of hopeful, all beautiful.

Spring - a love song… i think?

Weak Hands - a gorgeous and heartfelt tune
