Best of Groovy 2025
I build these end of year lists from the monthly playlists I keep and my favorited songs. I went back to add links on this one and found that I hadn’t written up a single one of them. How odd.
I maybe need to rethink my categories a little anyway. I didn’t want this one to be “just rap” but the stuff that isn’t probably fits better elsewhere.
But it’s all stuff I like so I won’t worry about it too much.

Black Hole Superette / I Heard It’s A Mess There Too - Aesop Rock - Aes managed to drop two albums this year. I like the first one better than the second but they’re both high quality
-
Self Titled - Kae Tempest - So glad Tempest is around
-
Clarity of Cal - Wulfpeck - Don’t know anything about this but I liked it
-
Mercy - Armand Hammer - another Alchemist collab, this one is very moody and dark, even by their standards. Billy Woods also dropped the solo Golliwog album that I haven’t found a way into yet.
-
Weirdo - Emma Jean Thackary - really interesting and confident mix of a lot of different styles
-
Romance In The Age Of Adaptive Feedback - Unspecified Enemies - gloomy but powerful house beats with attitude
-
New Road And Guava Trees - M.anifest - great hip hop from Ghana
-
Black Thunder - Brittany Davis - funky piano jazz
