Discoveries and Rediscoveries 2025
Discoveries
I excluded things from the last couple years because I’m always discovering new stuff. These are albums that I knew about and hadn’t listened to or albums I hadn’t heard by artists I already liked.
-
Moby Grape - a band I’ve known about but hadn’t really given a good listen to. A fun historical document.
-
Clear Language - Balmorhea - a really great open space ambient rock sound
-
A Quiet Storm - Smokey Robinson - a classic that I hadn’t really gone through
-
Go Insane - Lindsey Buckingham - a fun early solo find from a guy I like a lot
-
Hadestown Original Cast Recording - saw a performance of it this year that was my first time paying attention
-
Wave - Antonio Carlos Jobim - a great way to unwind the stress in your life
-
Dead Bees On A Cake - David Sylvian - an interesting offering from the oddball art rocker
Rediscoveries
The problem with having been music obsessive for 40-plus years is that it’s easy to forget what you liked, say, 37 years ago, or 23 years ago, or even 8 years ago. So this blog has let me reconnect with things I hadn’t heard in a long time. It’s reminded me that I’ve always found something I’ve loved in what I was listening to and it’s worth keeping that in mind.
-
Cenotes - Giant Squid - a random find years ago that i still dig when I hear it again
-
Please Dont Feed The Model - Rom Schaerer Eberle - another fun random find from scrolling through new releases
-
Pet Sounds - Beach Boys - A classic that’s always great to hear again
-
How It Feels To Be Something On - Sunny Day Real Estate - listened to this one a lot back in the day as a young professional
-
This Is The Day - Pop Will Eat Itself - great high school memories
-
Flirtin With Disaster Molly Hatchet - great junior high memories are few and far between, but this is one.
-
More Power To Ya Petra - this one is more from my earliest experiences with music.
