Shogun - Trivium (2008)

Ideated from: cleaning out the inbox. it was up to 238 hours of music; figured I’d better get after it.

There’s just so much music these days, and especially there’s so much metal, that it’s hard to know if you’re really following it, or if you’ve just tuned into one channel.

I had followed Trivium without really paying a lot of attention, so I missed this gem when it came out. Please allow it to slam your head against the wall.

Grooves to get you moving, air-guitar-worthy instrumental breaks, and shout-along choruses seem like a throwback, but everything about this record sounds 21st century. The older sounds are filtered through modern prog and metalcore ideas. It’s really top-notch.

Tracks I Liked:

Kirisute Gomen - a great whiplash drum track

Down From The Sky - makes me wish Rock Band for Wii still existed.

Throes of Perdition - dang.

Engravings
Forest Swords
a moody instrumental jam

The Last Dawn
MONO
pretty post rock
