The year in not traumatizing the fam 2022
One more dimension in which I think about music: Stuff that I’m okay playing in the car when I have someone else riding with me.
I don’t apologize for what I like to listen to, but I can understand that my Kpop loving wife is not interested in hearing death metal or meandering nu jazz or 12-minute post rock epics. So I keep a “car music” playlist of stuff that I put on when I need to act like a normal-ass person who listens to the radio.
It’s not that I hate normal music or anything. I still love a good banger of a pop song, and I appreciate good songcraft as much as anyone. The fact that I’m more interested in outre stuff doesn’t mean I don’t like today’s hits. I also try to be long past judging someone for liking something popular. So this gives me a good excuse to make sure I don’t lose track of that.
