Familiaris - Snooze (2019)
Ideated from: things I missed and only picked up on when they made somebody else’s best-of-the-year lists.
Sometimes you don’t have to break all the rules or reset the scale to just make good music. Snooze (whom I hadn’t heard until today) seems to sound like a lot of their peers, but they do what they do very well.
mathrock- and emo-derived indie rock with some progressive bombast. The kind of thing I would say is unremarkable, except I’m remarking on it so that must not be true.
There is a nice sense of dynamics inside each of the tracks, which is pretty much the one thing you have to get right if you’re going to make this style interesting. They do that well, from acoustic-with-harmonies to some pretty heavy blast beats here and there.
Overall, though, it’s hard to distinguish one track from the others.
