West Coast Love Stories - Stone Giants (2021)

Ideated from: A playlist I uncovered from couple years ago entitled “Weird Shit from albumoftheyear.org scraping”. I do love to go deep-diving into genres and lists of stuff I’ve never heard of on there.

Amon Tobin (previously) gets a lot of work in. He recently started his own label / subscription bandcamp service and started filling its catalog with his own releases under different aliases, roughly divided by the particular sounds and styles he’s working with. The ones I know of are Two Fingers, Only Child Tyrant, and Figueroa, but there certainly might be others.

I’m not 100% clear on if Stone Giants is another alias or some other type of project, and I’m also not sure if that’s Tobin singing, though I can’t find any other credits so it might be.

Regardless, this is a very elegantly trippy experience. All of the usual Amon Tobin languid and fluid beats and flavors, but with a psychedelic and half-ambient twist and with wispy vocals.
