Joan Wasser (o_O) is a genuinely independent voice in the pop world. She might follow the vague outlines of trends in popular music, but she always has a unique vision of how it should sound.

This is maybe her most straightforward shot at soulful pop. If there’s any subterfuge it’s in the understated but complex backing tracks, where you hear soul mix with pop and house and rock styles.
