Sailing The Seas Of Cheese - Primus (1991)
I hadn’t heard this (now decade-old) remix but I highly reccommend it. There’s so much more detail to the drums and bass that it’s a truly superior listen.
Les Claypool is a prog-funk genius. Primus has been his core outfit for more than 40 years, although there are plenty of solo and collab outings as well. No matter who else is in the band, you’re seldom very far away from Claypool’s vision of wild, nerve-wracking basslines and hilarious lyrics.
I don’t know if this is the “best” Primus album, but it’s probably the one they’re remembered for the most. It is a rock solid slab of bizarre, funky alt rock that breaks every rule anybody thought existed about what a great rock album is supposed to sound like.
Three guys make enough ruckus to feel at times like you’re listening to a ten-piece metalcore orchestra.
Tracks I Liked
Jerry Was a Racecar Driver - There is nothing like it.
Tommy The Cat - Still a shout-along crowd pleaser, even though you definitely don’t get the words right
Those Damned Blue Collar Tweakers - Brings the house down
